Ekhaya Mall opens its doors in eMbalenhle

People can now expand their shopping experience.

eMBALENHLE – eKhaya Mall officially opened its doors in eMbalenhle on Wednesday, 28 April and the mall was open for the public on Thursday, 29 April.

The developers and co-owners of the new mall, S-Identity Holdings, Cashbuild South Africa and Nomatiki Trading Enterprise, celebrated the opening with other stakeholders and shop owners.

Municipal officials, councillors, the current executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, as well as two previous mayors also attended the event and the Band without a Name provided entertainment.

The new mall provides effortless access for its shoppers, whether using public or private transport.

The developers and co-owners of the new eKhaya Mall in eMbalenhle cut the ribbon at the official opening of this mall on Wednesday, 28 April. They are Messrs Willie Dreyer (Cashbuild), William Kgomo (Nomatiki Trading Enterprise) Nhlakanipho Zuma (executive mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality), David Lieberman (S-Identity Holdings) and Thulani Kgomo (Nomatiki Trading Enterprise).

Mr Thulani Kgomo of Nomatiki Trading Enterprise said during his speech at the opening it was the first two phases of 10 700sqm.

The development of the mall began in October 2019 and based on shoppers’ and retailers’ demand, the mall’s third phase of 1 800sqm is already on the cards.

The eKhaya Mall comprises 45 shops, including anchors Cashbuild, Shoprite and Roots Butchery, which all offer their very latest concepts to customers.

Shoprite promises a convenient shopping experience to its customers with several in-store fresh food departments including a meat market, a hot and cold foods deli, a bakery and a fresh fruit and vegetables department.

Shoprite’s money market counter will offer customers a wide range of value-added services including payment of municipal accounts, money transfers, top-up of data, airtime or electricity, purchasing gift cards or savings stamps, buying tickets, and even taking out insurance.

Mr Godfrey Msimango, who has been with the Shoprite Group since 2007, will be the manager of the store in eKhaya Mall.

Shoprite’s trading hours will be from 7am to 8pm from Monday to Sunday.

A Sasol filling station is integrated with the development, as is a new 17 taxi bay facility.

Both are ideal matches for a mall located at a busy crossroad intersection.

Linked to Sasol filling station, the mall features a 24-hour trading area where select tenants can trade around the clock.

Leading shops at eKhaya Mall include Ackermans, Pep and Pep Cell, Shoprite Liquor, The Local Choice, general dealer Nizams, King Pie and the financial services of Absa, Capitec, and FNB, with Nedbank ATM to open shortly.

Shoppers can get something to eat at outdoor dining facilities that include KFC, Romans Pizza, Roots Grill and Roots Grill Sports. Mr David Lieberman, director of S-Identity Holdings, said: “We are thrilled to open the eKhaya Mall.

“It has been an exciting and rewarding development process, although at times somewhat challenging, especially in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Nevertheless, we believe we have stayed true to our vision to create a mall that is all about its local community.

“The eKhaya Mall is at a natural gathering point right on the doorstep of its community, with a tenant mix that provides quality goods, services, experiences and great customer service.

“The mall’s fresh, modern design beautifully reflects its place and people.

“It is a great asset for the social and economic prosperity of this community.”

Mr William Kgomo (Nomatiki Trading Enterprise) gives guests a guided tour of the brand new eKhaya Mall that opened its doors in eMbalenhle on Wednesday, 28 April.

Mr Kgomo said the development meaningfully enhanced the local economy by creating numerous jobs and prioritising contracting employment and services from the local community wherever possible.

During peak times, more than 560 people were working on site on an average day, some of which included the project’s brickwork and formwork subcontractors, electricians, plumbers and steel fixers.

The mall’s retail and operational function have also generated around 260 permanent jobs at the mall and more than a hundred off-site jobs and several temporary employment opportunities.

The eKhaya Mall is situated at the bustling intersection of the R580 and the R546, right at the entrance to eMbalenhle.

It is located ideally to not only serve the community of eMbalenhle but also people from Evander, Secunda and Trichardt.

It is visible and easily accessible from both busy crossroads.

Indigenous low-maintenance trees, bushes and shrubbery have been planted as part of the mall’s landscaping to conserve water resources.

Another highlight is the greening of the mall’s site, with 180 trees planted to commemorate lost loved ones.

The first tree was planted in memory of Mr Lieberman’s late partner, Mr Vusi Tshabalala.
